The IPL Photo Facial is a non-ablative procedure that eliminates redness, old acne scars and hyper-pigmented skin by targeting them below the surface of the skin. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses a wavelength spectrum to find areas of discoloration and concentrate the light pulses where they are needed. Unlike lasers that use a concentrated light beam set to a specific target, IPL equipment can treat a variety of skin conditions because it works on a variety of wavelengths. Since the IPL treatment is non-ablative, the immediate recovery time is less than with laser treatments.
Since IPL Photo Facial delivers a broader spectrum of light, it can treat a broader spectrum of tissue. According to the National Rosacea Society, three out of five of the patients who underwent testing for the effect of intense pulsed light on rosacea showed reduction in the cathelicidins linked to rosacea inflammation. In other studies, the papules and pustules of rosacea were significantly reduced in patients receiving the intense pulsed light therapy.
Age Spots Treatment
IPL treatment is ideal for age spots, as the pulsed light can be targeted for the melanin in the skin. The melanin absorbs the light, fragmenting the pigment and allowing it to be absorbed naturally into the body. For darker age spots, multiple treatments will be necessary to break up all of the melanin.
Spider Veins Treatment
IPL provides a treatment for spider veins with less recovery time than laser therapy. The light pulse is programmed to target the area of excessive hemoglobin where the light is absorbed by the hemoglobin and damages the vessel wall. The damaged blood vessel is then absorbed into the body as part of the natural healing process.
Sun Damage and Sun Spots
Sun spots and general sun damage can leave brown spots and broken capillaries on the surface of the skin. The light pulses are targeted specifically for the area being treated. The light is absorbed by the melanin and hemoglobin in the capillaries, and the areas are broken down and absorbed naturally in the skin. The light also heats the skin cells under the surface, increasing collagen production.
IPL Photo Facial is a non-ablative way to treat rosacea, age spots, spider veins or sun-damaged skin. Through IPL treatment, areas where pigment and hemoglobin gather are broken up, reducing the spots and providing a more even skin tone. By heating the skin on the level where collagen is produced, the skin can begin a naturally regenerative process to give the patient younger, healthier looking skin without the need for invasive cosmetic surgery.
