Restore Your Youthful Glow...
Although the United States has used dermabrasion only since the 1990’s, a rudimentary form of microdermabrasion dates back to ancient Egyptian doctors. At that time, a type of sandpaper was used to exfoliate away the top layers of skin in order to uncover new, healthy skin cells and lightened scars.
Rest assured, microdermabrasion has come a long way. Our Chester Springs microdermabrasion location, conveniently located near Exton and West Chester, offers the most advanced dermabrasion treatment currently on the market – the DiamonTome. This innovative machine improves wrinkles, skin texture and color, without inflicting the slightest pain or requiring even minimal downtime.
Benefits Include:
Fresher skin with enhanced elasticity and skin texture
stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin
Fine line wrinkles are reduced
Reduction of superficial acne scars
Whiteheads and blackheads are eliminated
Bella Medspa Chester Springs Microdermabrasion uses a diamond tipped wand to loosen and exfoliate old, damaged skin cells. Made of surgical grade stainless steel, these wand tips are embedded with natural diamond and come in a variety of sizes.
These special qualities allow for individualized care of every patient and every skincare concern. Once the diamond tip makes contact with the skin, it a brades against the top layer (epidermis), loosening and extracting the worn and weathered older skin cells. The loosened skin is then immediately vacuumed away and deposited onto a small disposable filter.
Typically microdermabrasion is performed in a series of 5 to 8 30-minute treatments, spread 10 to 30 days apart.
Although results are gradual and multiple treatments are recommended for treatment of sun damage, fine lines, shallow acne scarring and dry patches, countless men and women report obvious improvement after just one treatment.
What Are the Side Effects of Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion, like any other skin treatment, has potential side effects, though they are usually minor and temporary. Patients may experience mild sunburn-like skin sensitivity or redness immediately following their treatment. Some people may also experience minor skin bruising or swelling. These effects usually wear off within a few days.
Other potential side effects include dry or flaky skin, which can be alleviated with proper moisturization. Patients may experience changes in skin color or acne flare-ups in rare cases. To reduce the likelihood of any of these adverse reactions to microdermabrasion, it’s critical to discuss your skin’s condition and medical history with your provider before your treatment.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
A good candidate for microdermabrasion is someone who is in good health and has reasonable expectations for the procedure’s results. Individuals with mild acne, discoloration, pockmarks, and/or superficial acne scars will benefit the most from the treatment.
Microdermabrasion can also help people with minor skin imperfections like sun damage, fine lines, and uneven pigmentation.
Who Is Not a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
While microdermabrasion is beneficial for many people, it’s not for everyone. Individuals with active skin conditions such as rosacea, dermatitis, eczema, recent sunburn, herpes, lupus, open sores, psoriasis, and fragile capillaries are frequently advised not to seek out this procedure.
People with a history of skin discoloration, Keloid scarring, and those on anticoagulant medications may also be unable to receive microdermabrasion. Before undergoing this skin treatment, it’s always a good idea to consult with your esthetician.
How to Prepare for Microdermabrasion Treatment
A few simple but necessary steps are involved in preparing for a microdermabrasion treatment. Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided for at least a week before your appointment, as these can make your skin more sensitive to the procedure. Exfoliating creams, retinol-based products, and at-home peels should also be avoided for at least three days before the treatment session.
Cleanse your skin thoroughly before the procedure to remove any makeup, dirt, or oil. Finally, remember to stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet to aid your skin’s natural healing process.
What Is Microdermabrasion Recovery Like?
Microdermabrasion recovery is typically quick and simple, earning the treatment the classification of a “lunchtime” procedure. Following your treatment session, you may experience mild redness and a sunburn-like sensation, but they should go away within a few hours. In addition, the treated skin may feel slightly dry or tight over the next few days.
It’s recommended that you avoid direct sun exposure and use a high SPF sunscreen when you venture outside during this recovery period. Furthermore, in the days following your treatment, you should avoid using toners, topical acne treatments, and medicated cleansers.
Older, duller skin cells will be replaced as your skin heals, revealing a healthier, more radiant complexion.
How Long Do Microdermabrasion Results Last?
The results of microdermabrasion can vary greatly depending on the patient’s skin type and condition. However, on average, the visible effects of a microdermabrasion treatment can last for up to a month.
To sustain your skin’s improved appearance, regular maintenance treatments are usually recommended every two to four weeks. If you want to ensure your results last, stick to a consistent skincare routine and protect your skin from the sun.
How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost?
The cost of microdermabrasion can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the clinic’s location, the practitioner’s expertise, and the specific needs of your skin. That said, a single microdermabrasion session typically costs $75 to $150.
Patients often require multiple sessions to achieve the best possible results. Also, remember that most health insurance policies do not cover cosmetic procedures. It’s critical to keep these factors in mind when budgeting for microdermabrasion.
