CoolSculpting Treatment Areas

CoolSculpting can be used on any area where a patient wants to lose weight as long as there is enough fat in the area for the applicator to adhere to. The following are the most common areas patients choose:

Coolsculpting Treatment Areas

CoolSculpting is most commonly used to reduce abdominal fat, also known as belly fat. Even patients who exercise on a regular basis can have trouble losing belly fat. But if diet and exercise fail to produce your desired results, our treatments can provide that midsection fat reduction you’re looking for. Treatments for the abdomen can be done in one application or across up to three. During your consultation, we will be able to advise you on how many applications you should receive.

Even if they are not overweight, many people can develop a double chin due to heredity. Just like with abdominal fat treatments, treatment cycles for the chin can span one to three treatment sessions. It typically takes about 35 minutes to complete a single application.

The fat bulges in the hip, thigh, and buttocks are known as saddlebags. Some patients are predisposed to fat accumulation in these areas and may find it difficult to eliminate it through exercise alone. With as few as two treatment sessions, CoolSculpting can effectively reduce fat that causes saddlebags with significant results.

Many factors can lead to love handles, which are fat pockets on the sides of the abdomen above the hips. Love handles can develop even with a relatively healthy diet and regular exercise due to stress-induced cortisol increases, metabolism slowing due to age, sleep deprivation, and a variety of other causes. With just a few sessions, CoolSculpting can dramatically reduce or even eliminate the appearance of your love handles.

For women, back fat can also be referred to as “bra fat.” Back fat can also hide muscle tone that men have worked so hard to achieve. But muscle gain does not always imply fat loss or visible definition. CoolSculpting can help you get a more defined back while also reducing or eliminating back rolls.

Gynecomastia, also known as “man boobs,” is more than just a condition caused by excess fat. Hormone imbalances, anti-androgen medications, some antidepressants and anxiety medications, antibiotics, steroid use, heart medications, and even alcohol can all contribute to gynecomastia complications. Gynecomastia can also be caused by liver and kidney problems stemming from hormonal changes. To avoid noticeable breast development, some men must keep their body fat percentages well below average. By significantly reducing fat deposits in the chest, CoolSculpting is extremely effective at reducing the appearance of gynecomastia.

Even if other areas of the body like the belly appear to be slim, some patients have unwanted fat in their thighs. Thigh fat can be very uncomfortable for some people because it rubs against their inner thighs when they walk. This may make it difficult for some people to live a more active lifestyle. To prevent inner thigh rubbing, CoolSculpting can help create a “thigh gap.”

How Does Coolsculpting Work?

CoolScupting uses extreme cold to break down and kill fat cells. The applicator device is specially designed to only affect the targeted fat cells. Doctors use the cryolipolysis instrument on your skin without any of the cutting or subcutaneous suction involved in traditional liposuction.

The cold only harms fat cells, leaving your skin and other tissue unaffected. As the fat cells die over time, they are absorbed and filtered out by your immune system.

CoolSculpting is administered in a single session to the targeted area. Its effects materialize immediately as cells start dying, but they aren’t visibly apparent for about a week. As time passes and more fat cells are disposed of, your shape will continue to improve for several months.

CoolSculpting® effectively target fat cells underneath the skin without damage to the skin or surrounding tissues. Treated fat cells are frozen and then die.

In the weeks that follow, the body naturally processes and eliminates these dead fat cells. Treated fat cells are gone for good!*

Does Coolsculpting Work?

CoolSculpting uses a procedure known as cryolipolysis to freeze and reduce the appearance of stubborn fat cells. According to a study by clinicians at the NYU School of Medicine, cryolipolysis reduced unwanted cells in the patients’ treatment areas by as much as 25%—and the results were still present 6 months after treatment!

Crylipolysis can destroy fat cells in the body by using controlled cooling technology to reduce body temperature in the center of the treatment area to about 39 degrees Fahrenheit. At this stage, the cells die permanently without damage to the surrounding tissue. The liver excretes the dead fat cells out of the body within a few weeks after the initial treatment, and you can reap the full benefits of this fat reduction treatment within just a few months.

CoolSculpting procedures can produce different results for different people.

What Does the Research Say About CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting was first approved by the FDA in 2010 to treat fat on the sides of the body. As research progressed, providers were granted permission to treat other body parts too. The procedure is now one of the most popular non-surgical body-shaping options available.

As with any fat removal procedure, the results are dependent on patients maintaining their new bodies’ shape through diet and exercise. A 2016 study analyzed two people who had CoolSculpting done on their flanks and discovered that the procedure effectively reduced fat in the treated areas for six to nine years. CoolSculpting is an excellent choice for addressing stubborn areas of fat that resist diet and exercise thanks to the longevity of its results.

This treatment method is virtually risk-free. While the device achieves temperatures cold enough to destroy fat, it does so without anesthesia and with little discomfort. According to a 2018 study, 95% of patients found CoolSculpting to be either comfortable or tolerable.

The procedure is also considered safe by the researchers. A 2015 review of 19 separate studies concluded that CoolSculpting side effects were mild and temporary.

Are You a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting procedures can effectively and safely reduce the appearance of body fat in many people. The ideal candidate is close to their ideal weight, healthy, fit, and looking for a way to remove stubborn fat bulges that do not disappear with diet and exercise alone.

However, this procedure is not right for everyone in PA. Since CoolSculpting involves very cold temperatures, you should avoid this treatment if you have are very sensitive to cold. Additionally, if you have any of the following conditions, you should not receive CoolSculpting.

  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Cold agglutinin disease
  • Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria
  • Raynaud’s disease

Remember, CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution. It is only designed to eliminate small amounts of excess fat, and you will not see a reduction in your weight after the treatment. But combined with a healthy lifestyle, you can see an improvement in your appearance due to the fat-freezing benefits of this revolutionary procedure. After CoolSculpting, continue to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly to maintain your results. Learn More

Who Shouldn’t Get CoolSculpting?

Patients should, in general, be in good overall health before undergoing any elective medical procedure, even if it is non-invasive. Those who have cold-sensitivity disorders, active infections, unrepaired hernias, and/or excessive loose skin in their desired treatment area(s) are not eligible for CoolSculpting.

Pregnancy are also contraindications to CoolSculpting.

How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?

A single CoolSculpting treatment typically costs around $800. Because most patients have multiple areas treated in a single session, the national average cost for CoolSculpting is $6,400. The size of the treated area, your geographic location, and the expertise of your provider will all influence the final cost of your treatment.

In Philadelphia, the average cost of CoolSculpting is around $3,200. The only way to determine if CoolSculpting can meet your needs and finalize a cost based on your treatment goals is to consult a skilled provider like Bella Medspa.

Coolsculpting Side Effects

Since CoolSculpting is a minimally invasive procedure, recovery time is minimal. You should be able to return to your normal activities almost immediately after your appointment.

However, like all cosmetic procedures, some side effects may occur. Tingling, cramping, and sensations of intense cold are common during treatment.

Additional side effects include:

  • A temporary tugging sensation. This occurs due to the cooling panels that hold the treatment area in place. The tugging sensation usually disappears once your esthetician completes the CoolSculpting procedure.
  • Temporary bruising, sensitivity, redness, or swelling. These common side effects occur due to the cold temperatures used during your procedure. These symptoms are localized around where your treatment was performed and usually disappear within a few weeks.
  • Pain, stinging, or aching around the treatment site. These side effects are triggered by the procedure’s very cold temperatures and usually disappear on their own. According to a 2015 study, this post-treatment pain typically dissipates within 3 to 11 days.

If you experience intense CoolSculpting side effects or symptoms that last longer than a few weeks, speak to a doctor as soon as possible.

How to Prepare for CoolSculpting Treatment

Because CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment, there is little preparation required. Patients are usually advised to avoid smoking and taking blood-thinning medications before their CoolSculpting treatment session, as well as to stay hydrated.

Discussing your questions with your provider during your CoolSculpting consultation and following the pre-treatment steps they suggest will ensure that your treatment goes smoothly.

What Is the CoolSculpting Procedure Like?

The procedure is relatively painless and quick. The treatment site will be prepared, and then the applicator will be placed on your skin by the technician. You will experience a sensation of cold and possibly some tugging due to the CoolSculpting applicator’s light suction on the areas of the body being treated.

Within a few minutes, the treated area will become numb from the cold. The procedure is painless and takes between 30 and 60 minutes. You can then go about your business as usual.

Downtime and Recovery After CoolSculpting

One of the many advantages of CoolSculpting over liposuction procedures is the absence of downtime. You can be treated during a regular daytime office visit, and afterward you’ll be able to return to work, home, and other normal activities. During the procedure, no sedation, incisions, or stitches are used.

Mild bruising and swelling are possible after the procedure, but they usually go away within 10 days. Despite the fact that CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical fat reduction treatment, it is still a medical procedure. Because of the extreme cold, skin irritation and discoloration are possible.

Fortunately, even if you do experience them, they are usually brief and mild.

When Will You See Your CoolSculpting Results?

Following the procedure, your fat cells will immediately begin to die, and your initial results will be visible within a week or so. As the cell death continues over the next few weeks, your body’s contour will change. And as your true shape emerges, your immune system will continue to eliminate waste.

Your final appearance will be visible within four months. Those dramatic results will last as long as you keep your weight under control and follow a healthy exercise and diet regimen. Patients frequently achieve their goals with just one CoolSculpting fat removal procedure.

Most people need two treatments to completely treat the area. 89.2% of patients were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with Coolsculpting after 2 visits. After 2 visits, patients see up to 73% more fat reduction than the first visit.
