As you age and experience sun damage, your skin undergoes a series of changes. Collagen and elastin, the substances that give your skin that smooth and young appearance, break down leading to the wrinkles, sagging and age/sun spots.

While your genetic background has some bearing on how soon and how much this breakdown will make itself visible, the single biggest cause of skin damage is exposure to the sun.

Sun exposure can cause wrinkles on your face, hands and arms, and other parts of your body that that have been exposed. Along with the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the skin loses its ability to retain moisture. The result is loose, baggy, dry skin, which can give the skin a leathery appearance.

Add in the effects of gravity, maybe exposure to cigarette smoke and environmental irritants and a lifetime of facial expressions, and you begin to notice the lines around your eyes, at the corners of your mouth, across your forehead and sagging skin in your throat.
