- Begin treatment. In many cases, we can begin your treatment the same day as your consultation. If you would prefer same-day treatment, please make sure you prepare accordingly:
- Please shave the areas you wish to treat with a razor. Do not tweeze, wax, or use depilatory creams.
- Your skin must be its base color; if you have a tan, we cannot safely treat you.
- This includes artificial tans from tanning beds and self-tanning products.
- Avoid sun exposure 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after treatment.
- We cannot safely treat you if you are taking antibiotics or steroids. You must wait 2 weeks after your last dose to begin or continue your laser treatments.
- Please discontinue using products on treatment areas that contain active ingredients, such as retinoids, alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHAs/BHAs), and vitamin C 5 – 7 days prior to treatment.
- Schedule your treatments 6 weeks apart. It is important to space your treatments correctly to effectively target hair follicles during their active growth phase. Staying on schedule is crucial for successful long-term hair reduction.
- Enjoy smooth, hair free skin. Once you’ve reached optimal results, you will eventually need to come back for a maintenance treatment. Usually, the area where the laser is being applied will sting or snap during the actual treatment. These discomforting feelings are all fleeting, lasting only a few milliseconds each. Your skin will turn pink or even reddish, feel sensitive to the touch, and you’ll probably notice swelling, or perifollicular edema, at the base of each hair. This can last for up to a day or two, but it usually goes away within two hours.
The treated hairs will eventually break off and be shed by your skin after becoming burnt, ashen, or gummy in texture. You will notice the hairs as they work their way out just below the skin’s surface. Some have called its appearance during this phase “peppery,” describing it as though the skin were flecked with tiny black pepper flakes. This is normal and will go away in a few days, though in some cases it can take up to a few weeks. Some people find this bothersome and attempt to remove the hair with a loofah or scrub, but it’s best to leave it alone. This material will naturally be expelled from your body.

Regardless of skin tone or hair color, laser hair removal is generally safe for all people. Nevertheless, the procedure shouldn’t be performed on people whose skin has recently been tanned or who have open infections.
