CoolSculpting Treatment Areas

CoolSculpting can be used on any area where a patient wants to lose weight as long as there is enough fat in the area for the applicator to adhere to. The following are the most common areas patients choose:

CoolSculpting Treatment Areas Bella Medspa Philadelphia, PA

CoolSculpting is most commonly used to reduce abdominal fat, also known as belly fat. Even patients who exercise on a regular basis can have trouble losing belly fat. But if diet and exercise fail to produce your desired results, our treatments can provide that midsection fat reduction you’re looking for. Treatments for the abdomen can be done in one application or across up to three. During your consultation, we will be able to advise you on how many applications you should receive.

Even if they are not overweight, many people can develop a double chin due to heredity. Just like with abdominal fat treatments, treatment cycles for the chin can span one to three treatment sessions. It typically takes about 35 minutes to complete a single application.

The fat bulges in the hip, thigh, and buttocks are known as saddlebags. Some patients are predisposed to fat accumulation in these areas and may find it difficult to eliminate it through exercise alone. With as few as two treatment sessions, CoolSculpting can effectively reduce fat that causes saddlebags with significant results.

Many factors can lead to love handles, which are fat pockets on the sides of the abdomen above the hips. Love handles can develop even with a relatively healthy diet and regular exercise due to stress-induced cortisol increases, metabolism slowing due to age, sleep deprivation, and a variety of other causes. With just a few sessions, CoolSculpting can dramatically reduce or even eliminate the appearance of your love handles.

For women, back fat can also be referred to as “bra fat.” Back fat can also hide muscle tone that men have worked so hard to achieve. But muscle gain does not always imply fat loss or visible definition. CoolSculpting can help you get a more defined back while also reducing or eliminating back rolls.

Gynecomastia, also known as “man boobs,” is more than just a condition caused by excess fat. Hormone imbalances, anti-androgen medications, some antidepressants and anxiety medications, antibiotics, steroid use, heart medications, and even alcohol can all contribute to gynecomastia complications. Gynecomastia can also be caused by liver and kidney problems stemming from hormonal changes. To avoid noticeable breast development, some men must keep their body fat percentages well below average. By significantly reducing fat deposits in the chest, CoolSculpting is extremely effective at reducing the appearance of gynecomastia.

Even if other areas of the body like the belly appear to be slim, some patients have unwanted fat in their thighs. Thigh fat can be very uncomfortable for some people because it rubs against their inner thighs when they walk. This may make it difficult for some people to live a more active lifestyle. To prevent inner thigh rubbing, CoolSculpting can help create a “thigh gap.”

How Does Coolsculpting Work?

CoolScupting uses extreme cold to break down and kill fat cells. The applicator device is specially designed to only affect the targeted fat cells. Doctors use the cryolipolysis instrument on your skin without any of the cutting or subcutaneous suction involved in traditional liposuction.

The cold only harms fat cells, leaving your skin and other tissue unaffected. As the fat cells die over time, they are absorbed and filtered out by your immune system.

CoolSculpting is administered in a single session to the targeted area. Its effects materialize immediately as cells start dying, but they aren’t visibly apparent for about a week. As time passes and more fat cells are disposed of, your shape will continue to improve for several months.

Our bone structure, muscle, and fat are responsible for determining our body’s shape and appearance. Bones make up the body’s underlying framework and cannot be altered, and we know that proper exercise and nutrition can grow and tone muscles. A caloric deficit is the only way to naturally eliminate belly fat.

Unlike building muscle, there is no natural way to target specific areas of fat. When we burn more calories than we consume, weight loss occurs. Unfortunately, age and underlying genetics determine where we carry excess body weight. We can’t choose which areas of fat we want to burn.

Regardless of how hard you train or how strict your diet is, stubborn fat may persist under your chin, in your upper arms, or around your stomach. In the past, the only options were to accept stubborn fat as an inevitability or undergo surgical liposuction.

Traditional plastic surgery involves anesthesia, incisions, long recoveries, and many of the same side effects as any other surgery. On the other hand, Coolsculpting is a low-risk, non-invasive body contouring treatment with a high level of accessibility.

How to Prepare for CoolSculpting Treatment

Preparation for CoolSculpting is minimal since the treatment is non-invasive. Providers usually advise patients to avoid smoking or taking blood-thinning medications prior to their CoolSculpting treatment session, as well as staying hydrated.

Discussing your questions and concerns with your provider during your CoolSculpting consultation and following any pre-treatment steps they recommend will ensure your treatment goes off without a hitch.

The CoolSculpting Procedure

The procedure is relatively quick and painless. The treatment site will be prepped and the technician will place the applicator on your skin. Initially, you’ll feel extreme cold and possibly some tugging due to the device’s light suction on those areas of the body that are being treated with the CoolSculpting applicator.

The treated area will go numb from the cold within a few minutes. The procedure is painless and lasts about 30 to 60 minutes. Afterwards, you can immediately resume your day. There is no anesthesia, sedation, vacuum suction, or cutting.

CoolSculpting Risks and Side Effects

Serious side effects are rare since CoolSculpting is non-invasive, but all treatments carry risks. The most common side effect of CoolSculpting is redness around the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours. Some individuals experience swelling and bruising that may persist for a few weeks. A stinging or tingling sensation at the treatment site is also possible.

Contour irregularities, in which one part of the treatment area appears fuller than another section, are another risk of CoolSculpting. Visiting an experienced CoolSculpting provider like Bella Medspa reduces your odds of experiencing these side effects.

Ideal Candidates for CoolSculpting

The ideal CoolSculpting candidate is generally healthy with pockets of stubborn fat. Ideal candidates also participate in a consistent exercise plan and follow a healthy diet.

CoolSculpting is permanent, but post-treatment weight gain can cause fat to return to the treated area.

Does CoolSculpting Actually Work?

Yes. CoolSculpting is a highly in-demand procedure due to its safety and effectiveness.

Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than other tissue. The low temperature delivered by the CoolSculpting device effectively breaks down fat without affecting other cells. With this procedure, you can achieve visible, long-lasting results.

A 2013 study reported a 23% reduction in fat layer thickness when measured with a caliper three months after CoolSculpting treatment. Researchers also noted that 86% of patients of experience marked fat reduction.

What Does the Research Say About CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting first received FDA approval in 2010 to treat fat on the sides of the body. As research expanded, it gained approval to treat other body parts. The treatment is now one of the most popular non-surgical body-shaping options on the market.

As with any fat removal procedure, the results depend on patients using diet and exercise to maintain their new shape. A 2016 study assessed two individuals who underwent CoolSculpting on their flanks and concluded the procedure effectively reduced fat in the treated areas for six to nine years. The longevity of its results makes CoolSculpting a good choice for addressing stubborn areas of fat that resist diet and exercise.

The procedure is also safe. While the device achieves temperatures cold enough to destroy fat, it requires no anesthesia and causes minimal discomfort. In a 2018 study, 95% of patients described CoolSculpting as either comfortable or tolerable.

Researchers also agree that the procedure is safe. A 2015 review analyzed 19 separate studies and concluded CoolSculpting side effects were mild and short-term.

Who Shouldn’t Get CoolSculpting?

In general, patients should be in good overall health before seeking out any elective medical procedure, even if it’s non-invasive. Those with cold-sensitivity disorders, active infections, unrepaired hernias, and/or excessive loose skin in their desired treatment area(s) are not viable candidates for CoolSculpting.

Pregnancy also contraindicate CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting Cost

CoolSculpting generally costs about $800 for one single-site treatment. The nationwide average cost for CoolSculpting is $6,400 because most patients have multiple areas treated during one session. The size of the treated area, your geographic location, and your provider’s expertise will all affect the final cost of your treatment.

The average cost of CoolSculpting in Philadelphia is about $3,200. Consultation with a skilled provider is the only way to determine if CoolSculpting can meet your needs and finalize a cost based on your treatment plan.

Fat Reduction With No Surgery and No Downtime

CoolSculpting body sculpting is the most innovative, and coolest, non-surgical way to remove bumps and bulges of stubborn fat. This new technology targets and cools unsightly fat cells in the selected area to prompt a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in those fat bulges.

Fat cells freeze and die at a higher temperature than other cells. The applicator holds the targeted tissue in place while the cooling panels bring the temperature of the fat cells down to their freezing point. This causes the treated fat cells to die and never return.

Coolsculpting is unlike most other methods of fat reduction that involve needles, surgery, and downtime. Most CoolSculpting clients spend the procedure time reading, working on their laptops, or simply relaxing, and experience no downtime after treatment.

Coolsculpting results look natural and are noticeable as early as three weeks following the procedure. The full results from Coolsculpting are seen within 3 – 4 months.

Downtime and Recovery After CoolSculpting

One of CoolSculpting’s many advantages over liposuction procedures is the lack of downtime involved. You’ll be treated during a regular daytime office visit, and then you can immediately return to work, home, or other normal activities. Sedation, incisions, and stitches are not used during the procedure.

Mild post-procedure bruising and swelling are possible, but they generally subside within 10 days. Despite being a non-invasive, non-surgical fat reduction treatment, CoolScultping is still a medical procedure. Skin irritation and discoloration are possible due to the extreme cold that’s administered.

Fortunately, even if you experience them, these side-effects are typically temporary and mild.

Seeing the Results

Your fat cells immediately begin dying after the procedure, and initial results are visible within a week or so. Your shape and contour will morph over the next several weeks as that cell death continues. Your immune system will keep working to remove the waste as your true shape emerges.

Your final appearance will be apparent within four months. Those dramatic results will be permanent as long as you maintain your weight and adhere to a healthy exercise and diet regimen. One CoolSculpting fat removal procedure is often enough for patients to achieve their goals.

In some cases, you and your doctor may decide that a second fat freezing procedure is necessary. The follow-up CoolSculpting treatment will have the same effects as the initial one.

CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction

CoolSculpting and liposuction are fat removal techniques used to treat areas of the body containing persistent fat. Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that requires anesthesia, incisions, and the insertion of tubes to withdraw fat cells from the body. These steps make liposuction significantly riskier than CoolSculpting.

Preparing for liposuction may require discontinuing medications and obtaining pre-operative clearance from your primary care doctor, depending on your medical history. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, requires minimal preparation.

Cryolipolysis is administered by applying a gel pad to the treated area and then using the CoolSculpting device. The procedure is much shorter than liposuction and requires no downtime. Recovering from liposuction is similar to other outpatient surgical procedures. You may need stitches and rest to recuperate.

After your CoolSculpting appointment, you can immediately resume your day. CoolSculpting also doesn’t carry any risk of infection because it doesn’t involve any incisions.

CoolSculpting FAQ

CoolSculpting is a revolutionary fat reduction treatment that uses an FDA-approved laser to destroy pockets of fat that create visible bulges. The applicator uses extreme cold to penetrate your skin and damage the cells that store fat.

Skilled practitioners can use the procedure to sculpt and reshape almost any body part where you carry unwanted fat. The treatment is low-risk, completely safe, and reliably effective.

Coolsculpting, developed by Zeltiq (now acquired by the global biopharmaceutical company Allergan, owner of brands including Botox and Juvederm), uses Cryolipolysis, a medical treatment that destroys fat cells. It relies on a controlled cooling to about 39 degrees to cause cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without damage to other tissue. Coolsculpting pricing structure is unique to each individual and requires an in-person consultation.

Excess calories are stored in fat cells, which make up adipose tissue. The more fat stored in the cell, the larger the tissue becomes, and the more the stored fat alters your appearance.

CoolSculpting, known medically as cryolipolysis, freezes the fat cells, causing them to die. As they break down, your immune system attacks them and the dead fat cells are filtered out through your liver.

The process only affects the fat cells within the treatment area. Your skin, surrounding tissue, and organs are left unharmed.

CoolSculpting treats bulging pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. It does not treat obesity.

Stubborn fat pockets in the upper arms, abdomen, outer and inner thighs, love handles, bra area, back, flanks, and double chins can all be treated with CoolSculpting. The treatment usually reduces fat by about 20%.

Both the cryolipolysis machine used to perform Coolsculpting and the procedure itself and FDA-approved.

CoolSculpting does not affect the skin or damage tissue other than fat cells. Your immune system evolved to break down and remove those dead cells. CoolSculpting does not alter or harm any of your other organs or systems.

A good candidate for CoolSculpting is an adult in generally good health. You must have areas of bulging fat and be at or close to your ideal weight. Personal consultation with a provider is necessary because it’s possible to have too much or too little fat to undergo the procedure.

To begin the treatment the device is positioned on your body at the location where the fat is to be removed. The Coolsculpting device draws the fat area up into a cooling panel. You will then feel a firm pull and pressure. It is the combination of the pressure and cooling that allows the tissue to be cooled effectively. The pressurized cooling is applied… Read More
